Quad City Mallards News Release

TOLEDO, Ohio - The host Toledo Walleye (42-14-5) scored three straight first period goals- a run capped off by what proved the be the game winner from Ryan Obuchowski- and then held off the Quad City Mallards' (20-37-4) comeback bid to claim a hard-fought 4-2 victory Saturday night.

The Walleye responded with three in a row after the Mallards' Alex Globke stole the puck in the Toledo slot and rifled the opening goal in under the crossbar five minutes, 26 seconds into the game. Kyle Bonis tied the score from the left wing circle at 10:58 of the first. Just 36 seconds later, Kevin Gibson pounced on a loose puck in the slot to give the Walleye a 2-1 lead. Obuchowski's solo rush stretched the advantage to 3-1 with just 37 seconds left in the opening period.

Toledo goaltender Pat Nagle (32 saves) then made a series of fine stops to prevent the Mallards from narrowing the deficit until Greg Amlong finally trimmed the margin to 3-2 from the high slot with just two minutes, 24 seconds left in the game. The Mallards' hopes of a late equalizer were conclusively dashed when the Walleye's Tyler Barnes scored the clinching empty net goal with 16 seconds left on the clock.

The Mallards return home to again meet the Walleye next Wednesday night at 6:35 p.m. Fans can enjoy $1 10-ounce beers from TaxSlayer Center concession stands during all Wednesday Mallards home games.
