Colorado Eagles News Release
RAPID CITY, SD. - The Colorado Eagles rallied from three different one-goal deficits to defeat the Rapid City Rush, 4-3 in a shootout on Friday. Eagles forward Drayson Bowman scored a goal in regulation and added the game-winner in the shootout. Goaltender Sam Brittain collected the win in net, making 23 saves on 26 shots and denying all three shooters he faced in the shootout.
Rapid City staked an early lead when a turnover by the Eagles deep in their own zone led to a shot from the low-slot for forward Peter Sivak who would light the lamp and give the Rush a 1-0 advantage just 5:43 into the contest.
Colorado would strike back less than 10 minutes later when forward Ryan Olsen unleashed a wrister from the right circle that would beat Rapid City goalie Adam Vay, tying the game at 1-1.
Later in the period and with the Rush on the power play, forward Shaquille Merasty would tip a shot from the point that would get past Brittain to put Rapid City back on top 2-1 at the 17:55 mark of the first period.
Colorado would again cook up an answer when Bowman streaked through the left circle before snapping a shot past Vay to even the score at 2-2 with only 32 seconds left in the opening 20 minutes of play.
Moving into the second period, the Rush would again take advantage of an Eagles turnover in the Colorado zone and again it would come off of the tape of Sivak, who would launch a slapshot from the top of the left circle and into the back of the net. The goal was Sivak's 20th of the season and put Rapid City back on top 3-2 at the 6:38 mark of the middle frame.
The Eagles would storm back in the third period, outshooting Rapid City 21-1 in the final frame before defenseman Matt Register buried a slapshot from the blue line to tie the game at 3-3 with only 2:41 remaining in regulation.
The game would then head to sudden-death overtime, where Colorado would be forced to kill-off a 4-on-3 power play for a full two minutes. Brittain and company would hold tough, forcing a shootout to decide the winner. Bowman snapped a wrister past Vay in the shootout, while Brittain shut down all three shots he faced as the Eagles walked away with a 4-3 victory.
Colorado finished the night going 0-for-3 on the power play, while Rapid City converted on one of their four chances on the man-advantage.
The Eagles return to action when they take on the Rapid City Rush at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center on Saturday, March 10th at 7:05pm MT.
