Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - LW Mark Derlago recorded a hat trick for the second straight game, as the Bakersfield Condors downed the Victoria Salmon Kings, 7-5, Friday night in front of 6,331 fans at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. The Condors rattled off six consecutive goals spanning the second and third periods to take command, and the win pulls them within a point of the eighth and final playoff spot in the National Conference.
The Salmon Kings (29-12-5, 63 points) took the first lead of the game with a goal from LW Jordan Krestanovich 12:09 into the opening frame. However, it took only 1:04 for Derlago to tie the game for the Condors (14-22-9, 37 points) with his 23rd tally of the campaign.
After RW Milan Gajic broke the tie for Victoria 4:00 into the second stanza, the Condors ratcheted up the intensity, rattling off three consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead in the period. Derlago and C Tim Konsorada lit the lamp just 26 seconds apart from one another, and LW Brett Lutes added to the run with his 13th goal of the season at the 11:08 mark, giving the Condors a two-goal lead after two.
The Condors picked up right where they left off with another three-goal spurt to start the final frame. F Todd Griffith, D Kevin Truelson and Derlago each notched goals, leading the attack to cap the six-goal streak for Bakersfield. Down 7-2, Victoria rebounded with two more goals from Gajic, who picked up the hat trick and brought Victoria within three with just over six minutes remaining in the game. Victoria scored one more late in the game to bring the final score to 7-5.
