Cyclones Rebound For 4-1 Win Over Mississippi
February 9, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
CINCINNATI, Ohio - A three goal third period explosion broke a 1-1 tie and gave Cincinnati a 4-1 win over Mississippi on Saturday night. Jason Deitsch scored a pair of goals to lead the charge in the frame. Cedrick Desjardins stopped 25 shots in collecting the win. It was the 15th come-from-behind win of the season.
It was the club record ninth straight win and the club-record 15th straight home game (13-0-2) without a regulation time loss. Cincinnati now has a seven point lead over second-place Elmira in the North Division standings. It was the 23rd time this season that the club scored three goals in a period.
Mississippi opened the scoring, 7:01 into the first period when Kyle McAlister fired a shot into the goal post that deflected downward and was cleared by a Cyclones defender. After a brief review between the referee, linesman and goal judge-it was determined to have crossed the line completely and McAlister was awarded his ninth goal of the season.
The Cyclones leveled the scores at 1-1 in the second frame, when at 17:12, they got the fourth goal of the season from James âBubba' Sixsmith. Off a faceoff deep in the Cincinnati zone, Barret Ehgoetz won the draw and pulled it back to defenseman Chad Starling, who rifled a long pass off the left wall. Sixsmith outraced his defender, broke in on goaltender Ryan Munce, who made the initial stop-surrendered the rebound and allowed the goal.
Deitsch netted the two goals in the third period and Cory Urquhart got the other to give Cincinnati the win.
For the first time in team history, the Cincinnati Cyclones are 26 games above .500, with a 34-8-3 record and sole possession of first place in the North Division. The triumph gives Cincinnati an 18-2-1 record since December 15. Mississippi is 21-26-3. The magic number for clinching a playoff berth is 21.
Cincinnati is next in action on Wednesday (Feb. 13) with a 7:30pm showdown with Dayton.
