Everblades power play hands Lynx a 4-1 loss on Saturday

February 9, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release

Even strength, the Augusta Lynx are a very solid team capable of playing with anyone in the ECHL. However, on Saturday night, the Lynx had to kill 11 penalties which ultimately was the difference in a 4-1 win for the Florida Everblades, who scored three out of their four goals on the power play. The game got off to a rocky start for the Lynx who were bombarded by Everblades shots in the 1st period. If it was for the spectacular goaltending of #30 Bobby Goepfert, the Lynx would have been out of it from the start. However, Goepfert held strong and stopped 17 of 18 shots in the 1st period alone. The lone goal was scored by Derek Damon on the power play, who beat Goepfert in close with a nice shot over the glove. The 2nd period saw more offense from the Everblades. The lone even strength goal of the night was scored by Jarret Lukin who snapped one past Goepfert's glove to make it 2-0. The Everblades made it 3-0 halfway through the game on their 33rd shot on goal as #2 Brandon Roach blasted a shot from the point that got behind a laid out Goepfert, who appeared to be tripped from behind on the play. Despite the objections from the Lynx, the goal stood for Florida and Bob Ferguson tried to change to momentum with a switch in goal, putting in Gerald Coleman even though Goepfert was outstanding through half the game. The Lynx responded on a 5 on 3 power play as #16 Chase Watson banged home a loose puck with help from #5 Ken Scuderi and #11 Matt Christie. However, the Blades came right back, again on the power play with a goal from Preston Callander. The Lynx had plenty of chances in the 3rd period, but hit two goal posts and had numerous back door, open net chances that just found a way to stay out on this night. #18 Igor Pohanka was awarded a penalty shot late in the game, but his bid was denied by Justin Peters.
