February 9, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release

Anchorage, AK - John Lammers recorded his first professional hat trick and Kellen Briggs (29 saves) came within 10 seconds of a shutout in a solid 3-2 victory over the Aces from Sullivan Arena on Friday night.

The Steelheads (26-14-7) are now 20-8-1 since December 1 and they've won 10 of their last 13 road games overall. Meanwhile the Aces (21-18-5), who haven't beaten the Steelheads in regulation this season, have lost five of six.

Lammers got his first of two tallies in the opening period off a perfectly placed wrist shot at 8:17 of the first period. On a two-on-two rush with Lance Galbraith into the offensive zone, Lammers took Gabraith's pass at the right circle and shifted away from the Aces' defense before firing a shot just under the crossbar. Darrell Hay earned the second assist.

Just over three minutes later Lammers buried his seventh in the last six outings, muscling a shot through the armpit of Aces' goaltender Derek Gustafson (23 saves), for a power play goal off assists from Hay and Briggs, the second helper of the year for the rookie netminder.

Lammers picked up the natural hat trick late in the second period taking Galbraith's pass and burying the back end of an odd-man rush for a 3-0 advantage heading into the third period. Through two periods the shots favored the Steelheads 18-15.

The Aces rallied late, netting a pair of man advantage markers in the final 10 seconds of the contest, as they converted on both halves of a five-on-three power play. Matt Robinson rocketed a shot past Briggs at 19:50 and Kimbi Daniels, who set up Robinson's marker, earned his 17th of the year with 2.9 seconds remaining. Robinson's tally, his 13th of the campaign, ended the Steelheads' collective shutout streak at 126:29, dating back to February 1.

The final shots favored the Aces 31-26, with the two clubs combining for three power play goals in 12 opportunities. Briggs is now 12-7-1, while Gustafson dropped to 11-15-4.

The Steelheads continue their series with the Aces on Saturday, February 9. The puck drops at 9:15 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks. Don't forget, Steelheads' single-game tickets can be purchased via www.idahosteelheads.com (using the print-at-home feature), by calling 331-TIXS or from the Qwest Arena box office.
