Delmas Perfect, as Nailers Defeat Jackals

ELMIRA, NY - Peter Delmas made 28 saves to earn his first career shutout as the Wheeling Nailers defeated the Elmira Jackals 2-0 at First Arena on Friday night. The win was the fifth straight for the Nailers, as Wheeling continues to hold a nine point lead in the North Division.

Both team kept it close in the game's first 19 minutes. However, the Nailers took advantage of a turnover in the neutral zone as Ben Street and Nick Petersen rushed down the ice on the a 2-on-1. Ben Street brought the puck on the right wing side, and fired a hard wrist shot past Jackals goaltender Marc Cousineau on the blocker side. The goal came at with 54 seconds remaining in the first, and the Nailers took a 1-0 lead into the first break.

In the second the Nailers doubled their shot total from the first period, registering 15 shots on goal. However, Cousineau came up with some big stops on several quality Nailers scoring chances, to keep the score at 1-0 at the end of two periods.

The Jackals gained momentum in the third, but Nailers Goaltender came up with several clutch saves to keep the lead in favor of Wheeling 1-0. With 2:43 remaining in regulation, Nick Petersen was called for roughing. During the power play, Elmira pulled the goaltender to take a 6-on-4 man advantage. The Jackals were relentless in front, but Delmas continues to make the saves. Ben Street picked up the puck and hurled it down the ice into the empty net to score his second goal of the game to, preserve a 2-0 victory for Wheeling.

The Nailers return home to WesBanco Arena on saturday to take on the Trenton Devils. Game time is slated for 7:35 p.m. The first 2,000 fans will receive a free Nailers T-shirt. To purchase tickets call 304-234-GOAL.
