Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- Led by stellar net play from Ryan Nie, the Kalamazoo Wings recorded their first win against the Florida Everblades in five attempts on the season with a 3-0 decision Friday night at Wings Stadium.

End-to-end action led to plenty of shots, but no scoring in the opening period. Each team went 0-for-1 on the power-play. Florida outshot Kalamazoo 11-9 in the opening period.

Kory Karlander (16th) gave the K-Wings the lead 6:31 into the second period, with a snap shot from between the circles to extend his team-lead in scoring to 42 points. The eventual game-winner from Karlander was his team-leading fourth of the season.

Just over five minutes into the third period, Andrew Fournier completed a cross-rink, tape-to-tape pass to Aaron Clarke (9th) who roofed the puck over the sliding ‘Blades goalkeeper, Bobby Goepfert. Trent Daavettila also earned an assist on the tally, which extended the points streaks of both Fournier and Daavettila to six games.

Nursing the 2-0 lead, the K-Wings would seal their fate when Sam Ftorek (6th) added an empty-net, shorthanded goal to deny any comeback opportunity for Florida. Ftorek's shorthander was his team-tying second of the season, both of his shorthanded goals have come as empty-netters.

The night truly belonged to Nie, who stopped 39 shots to raise his record to 14-11-2-2.
