KALAMAZOO, MI - The Florida Everblades (25-20-2) were held off the scoreboard in the opening game of their three-game road trip falling 3-0 to the Kalamazoo Wings (19-17-4) on Friday night at Wings Stadium.

K-Wings goaltender Ryan Nie earned his second shutout of the season by stopping all 39 shots he faced and handing the Everblades their second shutout of the season.

The opening 20 minutes wasn't short on action, just goals. Both goaltenders flashed their talents with big saves with Everblades net-minder Bobby Goepfert turning away nine shots and Nie stopping all 11 shots thrown at him.

The game finally saw someone dent the twine when Kalamazoo picked up a goal from Kory Karlander at 6:31 of the second period. Karlander's 16th goal of the season came off a shot from the left circle that deflected off an Everblade defender and past Goepfert.

The offensive frustration in the second period continued for the Everblades who were once again kept off the scoreboard by Nie who stopped all 20 shots by the Blades in the middle frame.

In the final period the Wings clamped down on the Everblades limiting them to just eight shots and tacked on two more goals to salt the game away. Kalamazoo grabbed a 2-0 lead at 5:31 with a power play marker from Aaron Clarke when his shot from the left circle found its way into the upper left corner of the net.

Kalamazoo sealed the victory late in the contest while the Everblades held a power play and pulled Goepfert for the extra attacker. Sam Ftorek scooped up a loose puck in the neutral zone and fired into the open net for his sixth goal of the year. The short-handed goal was Kalamazoo's ninth of the year and was the 12th against the Everblades this season.

In goal Goepfert saw his record fall to 17-10-2 after allowing two goals on 33 shots. Nie improved to 14-11-4 with his 39 save performance.

The Everblades finished the season series against Kalamazoo with a 4-1-0 record.
