Defenseman Scheffelmaier Reassigned to Worcester (AHL) by St. Louis (NHL)

Peoria, Ill. (November 26, 2004) – Rivermen Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Jason Christie announced today that defenseman Brett Scheffelmaier has been reassigned back to the team's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate – the Worcester IceCats – by the NHL's St. Louis Blues.

Scheffelmaier – a 6-foot-5, 230-pound native of Coronation, Alberta, who opened the year on injured reserve – notched one assist and two penalty minutes (PIM) in three games with the Rivermen over the past week. The 23-year-old backliner played in 10 games on reassignment with the Rivermen in 2003-2004, recording his first professional goal and three points (1g, 2a) along with 21 penalty minutes (PIM). In 23 games with Worcester last season, the third-year professional racked up 56 PIM with one assist.

As a rookie in 2002-2003, the fifth round selection (190th overall) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft finished third on the IceCats with 143 PIM, ranking fifth among AHL rookies. He also tied for fifth among AHL defensemen with 17 major penalties.
