Lynx Make Major Moves
November 26, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx have made some big moves in preparation for tonight's game against the Pensacola Ice Pilots, scheduled for 7:35 pm at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.
Former Lynx captain Jim Shepherd returns to the team after just over a year's absence. The 6-0, 190 lb. right wing returns to North American from Bayreuth ESV in Germany's Oberliga Nord, where he had six goals and 15 points in 16 games this year. In a total of 86 games with the Lynx organization, Shepherd scored 27 goals and had 69 points along with 164 PIMs.
"We're excited to have him back in Augusta," said Lynx Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Stan Drulia. "We know he can score, has good hands, and can also play the physical game. We're definitely looking forward to him suiting up against Pensacola."
Also bolstering the offense for tonight is the return of Matt Dzieduszycki from the injured reserve list. In three games this year, the sniping winger has a goal and two points for the team after recording over a point per game in 14 contest last year, spending the remainder of the year with the San Antonio Rampage of the American Hockey League.
A defensive blow came to the team, however, when captain Chris Hajt was recalled to the Portland Pirates of the AHL after Wednesday's game. Hajt recorded a goal and four assists to go with a +5 rating this year for the club, providing leadership both on and off the ice.
"No doubt it hurts to have him gone, but now it's time for other guys to step up," said Drulia. "We knew Hajt might not be here all season, considering his talent and where he's been in his career. But we're still a good team, and we have to keep working hard and prove it every night."
Finally, the club moved defenseman Rod Sarich to the injured reserve list, retroactive to Wednesday. Sarich had two goals and four points for the club in nine games this season. His move and Hajt's departure will mean Todd Bennett will see time defensively this weekend for the club.
"Benny's played back there before," said Drulia. "At times he's even capable of being our best defenseman. It's great to have a guy that talented on the club, and with Dzieduszycki and Shepherd up front, we're thick with forwards."
The Lynx battle the Ice Pilots tonight at 7:35 pm. Tickets are available through the Lynx office at 712 Telfair St., at all TicketMaster locations, and on line at www.TicketMaster.com. Pre-game show on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630 starts one half-hour before faceoff.
