Florida Everblades News Release
ESTERO, FL - The Greenville Grrrowl (7-7-1) used three power play goals to defeat the Florida Everblades (6-9-0) 3-2 Friday night at Germain Arena. The win pushed Greenville to 5-1-1 in their last seven games, while the loss dropped Florida to 1-5-0 in their last six games.
Greenville's first power play tally came midway through the first period when Richard Pitirri knocked home a rebound past 'Blades net minder Craig Kowalski for a 1-0 advantage. The Grrrowl extended the lead to 2-0 late in the opening period. After Kowalski was assessed a double-minor for high sticking, Corey Hessler slapped home a shot from the right point during the first of the two minor penalties with just 38 seconds remaining in the period. With 10 seconds left in the first period, Kowalski was whistled for a delay of game penalty after shooting the puck over the glass giving Greenville a two-man advantage for 1:22. It was during the 5-on-3 power play that the Grrrowl extended their lead to 3-0 when Carl Mallette jammed home a shot just 46 seconds into the second period.
Florida began its comeback midway through the second period when David Lundbohm beat Grrrowl goaltender Mike Morrison at 9:18. Late in the middle stanza, Matt Hendricks collected his sixth goal of the season when he wristed a shot past Morrison from the left wing boards to cut the Greenville lead to one. However, despite strong pressure through the remainder of the second period and into the third period, along with limiting Greenville to just one shot in the third period, the 'Blades couldn't find the tying goal.
Kowalski suffered the loss for Florida allowing the three goals on 33 shots to fall to 3-4-0. Morrison earned the win in goal by stopping 34 of 36 Florida shots to bring his record to 4-3-1. Florida finished the night 0-for-5 on the power play, while the Grrrowl closed out the night 3-for-5 on the man advantage.
Florida continues their six-game home stand when they take on the Las Vegas Wranglers on Saturday night, November 27 at 7:30 p.m. You can hear all of the Everblades action on SportsRadio 770 AM or via internet by visiting www.floridaeverblades.com, www.abc-7.com, and www.nbc-2.com with the "Voice of the Everblades" Kevin Reiter calling the play-by-play.
