Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Fresno, CA – Once again the Salmon Kings found themselves in a hole just minutes into a game. Fresno's Chris Porter potted his first of the year at 3:23 of the 1st to give Fresno a lead that they would not relinquish here tonight. The period proved to be a low scoring affair and Victoria managed just six shots on goal in the period, never beating Falcon's rookie goalie, Brett Jaegar.

Jason Stone, starting back to back for the first time this season, was beaten again early in the 2nd on a goal by Fresno's Derek Krestanovich at 3:45 and then again by Shaun Sutter at 6:39. The Salmon Kings now found themselves down three goals not yet half way into the match. The Salmon Kings refused to let up and the 2nd period proved to be Victoria's strongest as they recorded 13 shots on goal. Unfortunately they were unable to beat Jaegar until Blue Bennefield scored his third goal of the year at 17:12, on a 2 man advantage to put the Salmon Kings within two. Mike Barrie and Brad Dexter recorded the assists.

The 3rd period saw Mike Barrie score another power play goal at 2:39 to put the Salmon Kings back into the game. Jeff Williams and Brad Dexter, with his second, had the assists on the goal. Barrie's two points gave him 9 points in the last four games and the team lead with 11 points including two goals. Jason Stone stopped 12 shots in the 3rd to give the Salmon Kings a chance however they were unable to muster too many chances and only had five shots on goal in the period. An empty net goal by Fresno's David Brisson at 19:11made it 4-2 and iced the game.

The Salmon Kings fall to 3-9 on the season and have a return engagement here tomorrow night before heading off to Bakersfield on Sunday for the last game of their gruelling 14 game road swing to start the season.

The Salmon Kings play their first game home contest until December 5th at Bear Mountain Arena against the Bakersfield Condors.
