
Gwinnett shuts out Gators

Lafayette, LA â On a night when the IceGators unveiled their 10th anniversary jerseys, it was the Gwinnett Gladiators who stole the show, as six different players lit the lamp en route to a 7-0 shutout victory.
The first period was dominated by Gwinnett as the Gladiators skated to a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Mike Vigilante started the scoring with a rebound goal, his 7th, at 3:15 of the period. Eighteen seconds later, it was Chris Durno scoring his 3rd of the year on a break away to make it 2-0 Gwinnett. Then at 7:53, rookie Brett Engelhardt fired home a wrist shot from the right circle, his 10th, to give the visitors a three goal cushion.
The 2nd period didn't change the tide of the game as Gwinett scored four more goals to make the score 7-0. Layne Manson (1), Adam Smyth (1), Vigilante (8), and Jeff Campbell (8) lit the lamp for Jeff Pyle's club. Kyle Kettles was pulled at the 4:50 mark of the 2nd period after the Gladiators 5th goal. He stopped 9 of 14 Gladiator attempts on net. Nathan Marsters stopped 11 of 13 to end the period.
The 3rd period produced no scoring for either side as Gwinnett rolled to the 7-0 victory. TJ Aceti finished with the shutout stopping all 27 IceGators shots. Gwinnett finished with 35 shots, Marsters stopping 19 of 21 attempts in relief. Neither team scored on the power play, the Gators 0-3, the Gladiators 0-2. With the loss, the Gators remain in 2nd place in the South Division with a record of 6-3-2, good for 14 points.
Saturday, November 27: Gators at Texas Wildcatters 7:05pm For the 3rd time this season the Gators and Wildcatters face off. Louisiana winning the first match up on October 30, ruining Texas' home opener 3-1. The Wildcatters returning the favor last Sunday with a 4-1 win on the Frozen Swamp.
