Augusta Lynx News Release

It took one month and four days, but the Augusta Lynx finally earned their first win at home with a 3-2 shootout win over the Pensacola Ice Pilots before 2,880 fans at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center Friday night.

Pensacola kicked off the scoring at 13:42 of the first period on a Nick Lindberg goal from Jim Murphy and Corey Neilson to make it a 1-0 game after 20 minutes. The Lynx would jump back into the game at 5:33 of the second period when Jim Shepherd scored his first goal in a Lynx uniform in over a year to tie the game at 1-1. Matt Dzieduszycki added the assist on the goal in his first game back from the IR. Sixteen seconds later, however, the Ice Pilots jumped back into the lead and cut the celebration short for the Lynx when Ryan Stokes scored to give Pensacola a 2-1 lead at the break.

Third period action saw the Lynx jump on the power play early, and finally break through on a Jamie Johnson marker at 2:14 from Shepherd and Sean Connolly. For Connolly, it marked the fifth straight game in which he has registered a point, notching three goals and three assists over that span. No further scoring resulted after Johnson's goal, and the game would also remain tied through overtime at 2-2. In the shootout, the Lynx converted their first two attempts while Jason Saal shut down the Ice Pilots on all four of their tries, giving the Lynx their first home win this year by a 3-2 score. Saal stopped 29 shots in the win, while Frederic Cloutier turned aside 31 Lynx shots in the loss.

The Lynx are back in action Saturday night against the Columbia Inferno, the first time the two teams meet this season. Game time is slated for 7:35 pm, with the pre-game show on NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630 starting one half-hour before faceoff.
