CHARLOTTE, NC - Zac Dalpe scored twice and Charlotte held off a late charge from the Sound Tigers as the Checkers swept the two-game series with a 6-5 win at the Time Warner Cable Arena on Friday night. Charlotte improves to 8-7-1-2 with the win. The Sound Tigers drop their third straight and fall to 5-9-0-0.

Just 55 seconds into the game Charlotte picked up where they left off the previous evening. Zac Dalpe skated in and fired from just above the right faceoff circle towards Sound Tigers goalie Kevin Poulin. Poulin deflected the shot with the bottom part of his glove, but the puck trickled across the goal line to put the Checkers ahead 1-0. Charlotte would add to their lead at the 12:31 mark of the opening frame. Zack FitzGerald skated the puck down the left wing boards and made a centering feed that was deflected by Nicolas Blanchard between Poulin's pads for his second goal of the season to increase Charlotte's lead to two. 1:21 later Dalpe netted his second of the game on the doorstep to make it 3-0 Checkers.

With less than a minute left in the period the Sound Tigers would get on the scoreboard. Tony Romano skated down the right wing boards and threw a centering feed in front that was deflected by a Charlotte defenseman and past Checkers goaltender Mike Murphy. It was Romano's third goal of the season as well as his second in two games, and heading into the first intermission the Sound Tigers trailed 3-1 despite outshooting the Checkers 16-8.

Just two minutes into the second period the Sound Tigers cut the deficit to one. Robin Figren skated through the left side of the neutral zone and snapped a shot from above the left faceoff circle past Mike Murphy to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Checkers. Figren would hit the post just a few minutes later, but it was Charlotte who would score the next goal as Jerome Samson collected the puck by the left faceoff circle and fired it off the near post past Poulin to give the Checkers a 4-2 lead. Riley Nash gave Charlotte a three-goal lead at 14:32 of the second after collecting a rebound from a sharp angle shot for his third goal of the season.

However the Sound Tigers would answer with just 9.6 seconds left in the middle frame. Dylan Reese kept the puck in the Charlotte zone and put a shot on net from the right-wing circle that was initially stopped by Murphy, but Rhett Rakhshani lifted the rebound from the slot in the top of the net. It was Rakhshani's fourth goal of the season and heading to the final period of play the Sound Tigers trailed 5-3.

Oskar Osala extended the Checkers lead to three with a deflection past Poulin just 2:28 into the third period. But the Sound Tigers responded when Brandon Svendsen scored his first goal as a Sound Tiger with just over 13 minutes left in the game to make it a 6-4 contest. The score remained that way until late in the third when the Sound Tigers cut the lead to one. Following a Brett Carson holding penalty, the Sound Tigers pulled Kevin Poulin for the extra skater and Jeremy Colliton deflected Dylan Reese's shot from the point to make it a one-goal game with 1:29 left in regulation. However the Sound Tigers were unable to find the equalizer and Charlotte held on for the 6-5 win.

The Sound Tigers outshot the Checkers 39-30 following the previous game where they were outshot 41-18. Mike Murphy made 34 saves including some big ones down the stretch to earn the victory for Charlotte. Kevin Poulin made 24 saves in the loss and now stands at 3-2-0 overall.

The Sound Tigers return to action tomorrow night when they host the Norfolk Admirals at 7 p.m.
