Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Cleveland, OH- Admirals goalie Mark Dekanich recorded his second-straight shutout while Chris Mueller notched a three-point night to lead Milwaukee to a 4-0 win over the Lake Erie Monsters Friday in Cleveland, OH.
Dekanich extended his shutout streak to 172:34. It was his second shutout of the season, seventh with Milwaukee and eighth in his professional career.
The back-to-back shutouts are the first recorded by the Admirals since Oct. 26 & Oct. 27, 2007 when Maxime Daigneault shutout Quad City in Moline, IL on the 26th and Pekka Rinne blanked Chicago in overtime at the Bradley Center on the 27th.
The Admirals goalie was busiest in the first period when he thwarted 13 shots from the Monsters. He saw only four in each of the final two periods.
Mueller recorded the game-winning goal with a shorthanded tally at 14:29 of the first period. He stripped Monsters center Ben Walter of the puck on the left wing boards and chipped it past defenseman Brandon Rogers. Mueller sped on the left wing to the Lake Erie blue line where he sidestepped defenseman Chad Anderson to move to the slot. As Anderson reached out to trip him up, Mueller slid a shot through the legs of goalie Jason Bacashihua for his second goal of the season.
Mueller's faceoff win at 5:11 of the second period led to Milwaukee's second goal. The puck slid to Aaron Johnson at the left point. Rushed by Monsters forward Patrick Bordeleau, Johnson flung a shot to the net that snuck by Bacashihua to give the Admirals a 2-0 lead.
The Admirals made it 3-0 when Ryan Thang knocked down a clearing attempt by Bacashihua from behind the Monsters net. Thang fed Jamie Lundmark in the slot. Lundmark's shot was stopped but Matt Halischuk buried the rebound for his fifth goal of the season at 2:02 of the third period.
Mueller added an empty net goal with 2:02 to play with Linus Klasen and Andreas Thuresson recording the helpers.
Milwaukee won its fourth straight game and recorded points in its fifth straight. The Admirals are now 8-3-1-2 on the season. The 19 points recorded places the team in third place in the West Division.
