Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... Cody Hodgson's goal broke a 2-2 tie late in the second period and it proved to be the game-winner as the Manitoba Moose held on for a 3-2 win tonight over the Rochester Americans at the MTS Centre. The game was the first of back-to-back tilts between the North Division rivals this weekend. With the loss, Rochester's five-game road winning streak comes to a halt as it falls to 8-7-1-0 on the season.
Forwards Eric Selleck and Ryan Del Monte each chipped in two assists and goaltender Tyler Plante turned aside a season-high 42 saves as the Amerks were outshot 45-23 in the contest.
Joel Perreault and Sergei Shirokov also assisted on two goals apiece for the hometown Moose, who won their third straight game.
Third-year defenseman Mike Caruso opened the scoring with his second of the season midway through the first period to put Rochester on top 1-0. Selleck and Del Monte earned their points of the night with assists on the goal.
The lead would be very short-lived, however, as the Moose responded 35 seconds later with Kevin Clark's goal to even the game up at one apiece before Jeff Tambellini gave Manitoba its first lead of the night at 12:40 on the power-play.
The Amerks answered back before the end of the period as AJ Jenks found the back of the net at 18:40 with his first professional goal. Selleck and Del Monte recorded the helpers again to make it a 2-2 game heading into the second stanza.
The Moose regained the lead late in the middle frame as Hodgson put home his team-leading seventh tally of the season, and ultimately the game-winner, to secure the win for Manitoba.
The same two teams meet again on Saturday, November 13th to close out a two-game set at the MTS Centre. The contest is slated for an 8:30 p.m. EST and can be heard live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
