Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose are proud to present a cheque in the amount of $23,715 to Jackie Stephen of "Keeping Abreast" prior to tonight's American Hockey League game between the Moose and Rochester Americans at MTS Centre.

The cheque represents efforts by the Moose throughout the month of October to raise monies in support of breast cancer awareness and specifically "Keeping Abreast". The Moose were able to raise money with a number of special giveaways and the sale of some new unique collectibles, such as Moose toque & glove sets, baskets, and sticks at all four October Moose games.

"Keeping Abreast" is a local charity that started in late 2007 and devotes their time to fundraising for research, state-of-the-art medical equipment and education about breast cancer and the benefits of reconstructive surgery.

Over the past three seasons, the Moose have raised over $60,000 towards cancer research with $48,965 going specifically to "Keeping Abreast".

Additionally, the Moose developed a special Manitoba Moose pink scarf/glove set featuring the traditional pink ribbon symbol along with a Moose logo. The set was available on the concourse at Moose games and at the Off the Rack Store throughout the month of October with all net proceeds from the sale of this merchandise going towards "Keeping Abreast".

Also at each home game during October, the Moose auctioned off a "pink stick" used by defenceman Nolan Baumgartner. At the end of each game, winners had the opportunity to meet Baumgartner and get their winning pink stick signed. In addition to the stick, Moose fans had the opportunity to win autographed jerseys from such NHL stars as former Moose Cory Schneider, Stanley Cup champion and Winnipeg native Jonathan Toews, Tampa Bay Lighting star Steven Stamkos, and Moose centre Joel Perrault.
