Providence Bruins News Release
Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins, now in their 19th season in the American Hockey League, today announced that the club has signed veteran forward David Ling to an AHL contract. He made his Providence debut in the club's 5-2 loss to the Abbotsford Heat on Friday night.
Ling, 35, began the season playing for the Khabarovsk Amur of Russia's Kontinental Hockey League, where he suited up for 18 games and scored seven points, including six assists. The right wing has played almost exclusively overseas since the start of the 2005-06 season, other than a one-year return to the AHL with the Toronto Marlies in 2007-08, helping the club to a North Division championship and the Western Conference Finals.
Over a 16-year career spanning the National Hockey League, AHL, International Hockey League and overseas play, Ling has appeared in 1,038 regular season games and 67 postseason contests, combining for a total of 305 goals, 545 assists, 850 points and 2,569 penalty minutes. In 93 NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets and Montreal Canadiens, the forward has four goals, four assists and 191 PIM. His best season as a pro came in 2004-05 with the St. John's Maple Leafs, scoring 88 points, including 28 goals and 60 assists, in 80 regular season outings.
The native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, was selected by the Quebec Nordiques 179th overall in round seven of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
The P-Bruins' roster is now comprised of 25 players, including 16 forwards, seven defensemen and two goaltenders.
The P-Bruins are on the road in New Hampshire on Saturday, taking on the Manchester Monarchs at 7 p.m. The weekend wraps up on Sunday as Providence hosts Abbotsford at 4:05 p.m. for Thundersticks Night with thundersticks free to the first 1,000 kids age 12 and under.
P-Bruins ticket packages and individual game tickets are on sale now for the 2010-11 season. To purchase tickets or for more information, call the P-Bruins ticket office at (401) 273-5000 or log on to the team website at www.providencebruins.com.
