Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
KALAMAZOO, Michigan - The Cincinnati Cyclones (7-0-0-0) thwarted a late game comeback by the Kalamazoo Wings (2-4-0-1) and hung on to win by a 6-5 final score in front of 4,216 at Wings Stadium on Friday night. It was the first time since last February that Cincinnati had won seven straight games. Wade Megan finished with his fourth-straight two-game.
The Cyclones scored the first goal of the game for the fifth time this season when John McFarland one-timed a shot past Joel Martin (L, 27 saves, 1-2-0-1) at 7:56 to make it 1-0. The Wings answered back though, at 12:23, when Cody Beach blasted home a slap shot from the right circle to even things at one. The teams would skate into the first intermission all square at a goal apiece.
Cincinnati pulled back ahead just six minutes into the middle stanza, as Wade Megan tipped home Philippe Lefebvre's point shot to give his team a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, Ryan Del Monte responded with a power play goal for the Wings - beating Rob Madore (W, 25 saves, 6-0-0-0) with a snap shot at 7:19. But Cincinnati would explode for two more lamplighters, one from Barry Almeida and another from Megan just 1:14 apart to give the Cyclones a 4-2 cushion after 40 minutes.
The third period turned out to be the wildest of them all. The Wings rallied to within a goal as Yanni Gourde and Eric Kattelus each scored just two minutes apart beginning at 14:56. Cincinnati's Kyle Bodie fired back by sniping home his first professional tally to regain the team's two-goal edge. With a late power play, Kattelus struck again at 18:24 for the home team to make it a 6-5 game. But the Cyclones penalty kill unit stayed strong the rest of the way and extinguished the final seconds to earn their seventh straight victory.
The Cyclones will return to the ice at U.S. Bank Arena tomorrow night when they play host to the Fort Wayne Komets at 7:30pm. The game will also be the first Kids Eat FREE night of the year, with fans ages 2-12 receiving a FREE meal courtesy of John Morrell. Tickets are on sale now!
