Kalamazoo Wings News Release

Kalamazoo, MI- The most prolific scoring team in the ECHL, the Cincinnati Cyclones, needed every one of their six goals Friday night at Wings Stadium to survive a wild 6-5 victory over the Kalamazoo Wings.

Striking on their first power-play attempt of the game, the Cyclones took the early lead with a one-timer from John McFarland (2nd).

Scoring in similar fashion the K-Wings responded with their own one-timer, as Cody Beach (2nd) sent a rocket past goaltender Rob Madore. Getting the assists on the play were Ryan Del Monte and Ray Kaunisto.

In the second period, Cincinnati stuck first and often. The Cyclones had 6 shots on goal in the second period with three of those shots lighting the lamp.

Wade Megan (8th) extended his impressive point streak to seven games, netting a goal six minutes into the period. Later in the stanza, the K-Wings responded with an unassisted power-play goal by Ryan Del Monte (2nd) to even the game at 2-2.

Just 34 seconds after the Del Monte net finder, Cincinnati's Barry Almeida (3rd) separated the Cyclones once again, shooting it past K-Wings goaltender Joel Martin. The scoring bonanza continued when the ECHL's leading goal getter, Megan (9th), recorded his second of the game.

Cyclones seemed to put the game out of reach 1:32 into the third period. Stopping in front of the crease, Phillppe Lefebrve (2nd) deflected a Johnathan Hazen centering pass to push Cincinnati's lead to three goals.

Kalamazoo seemed to get some momentum moments later, when Ben Wilson lit the lamp on a slap shot; however, the goal was negated because of goaltending interference.

Not giving up hope, the K-Wings answered back with back-to-back goals starting 14:56 into the period with a redirected marker from Yanni Gourde (3rd).

Moving from forward to defense because of injuries, Eric Kattelus (5th) didn't let the position change slow down his scoring touch. Kattelus, who leads the K-Wings in goals scored, used a scorching backhander from between the circles to bring Kalamazoo back to within a single goal.

Fighting off the K-Wings assault, Kyle Bodie intercepted a breakout pass and quickly sent a wrister past Martin for his first goal of the season.

Capitalizing on a two-man advantage late in regulation, Kattelus (6th) struck for his second goal of the night with 1:36 remaining to cut the deficit to 6-5.

Battling to the final horn, the K-Wings sent four more chances towards Madore in the final seconds to try to tie the game, including a shot from Chris Lawrence that caromed off the post with 7.4 seconds remaining.

The K-Wings will continue their five-game home stand next Friday, November 15th with a 7:30 p.m. face-off versus the Reading Royals on Military Appreciation Night featuring a special appearance from former Detroit Lions kicker Jason Hanson presented by Fox-17.
