Gladiators Win on a Night of Firsts

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Rookie defenseman Devon Krogh netted the game-winner early in the third period Friday, as the Gwinnett Gladiators knocked off the Greenville Road Warriors 3-1 at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena.

Gwinnett (2-7) came into the night with an 0-3 record on the road, and an 0-for-22 mark on the man advantage on the road, but snapped both of those slumps with one big period.

With the game even through two periods, Krogh scored what would prove to be the game-winner 2:58 into the stanza on the power play. A Sacha Guimond shot ricocheted off Road Warriors goalie Connor Knapp to Krogh at the far circle, and the Ohio State grad rifled the puck past a sprawling Knapp. Dirk Southern had the second assist and the Gladiators wouldn't look back.

Goaltender Peter Delmas and the Gwinnett defense clamped down on Greenville (3-6), and at 18:58 Evan Bloodoff buried an empty-netter from Max Legault to seal a 3-1 Gwinnett win. Delmas stopped 30 of 31 shots in his second start with the Gladiators, while Knapp made 34 saves in a losing effort.

The Gladiators finished 1-for-4 on the power play, while limiting Greenville to 0-for-1. Both teams go head-to-head Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Kurtis Bartliff's third goal of the season put the Gladiators ahead just 5:36 into the game. The forward raced into the Warriors zone, and snapped ashot from the slot past the blocker of Knapp for an unassisted tally. Greenville drew even, however, at 8:52 with an unassisted goal from BrandonHynes to tie the game through one period.

The middle period stayed scoreless thanks in large part to stellar goaltending from Delmas and Knapp, with both parties stopping several pointblank chances.

The Gladiators are members of the ECHL, the nation's premier "AA" hockey league and are affiliated with the Phoenix Coyotes of the NHL. All home games are played at the 11,355-seat Arena at Gwinnett Center, located just off I-85 on Sugarloaf Parkway in Duluth.
