February 11, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones close out a four game homestand Wednesday night when Dayton comes to town at 7:30pm for a 'Wet Wednesday'. There will be one dollar twelve ounce beers available all game long. The squad hits the road for games at Trenton on Friday and at Elmira on Saturday
ROLLING ON: The Cyclones have won a club record nine consecutive decisions. Cincinnati, which has not lost a game since January 13 at Reading, is 9-0 since and has outscored the opposition, 33-15, during that stretch. The winning streak began, coincidently, with the start of the second half of the season and during this run the club has converted eleven of its 40 power play chances (27.5 percent). Five of the nine wins have been of the come-from-behind variety.
ABOUT THE OTHER NIGHT...: The Cyclones exploded for three third period goals to blow open a 1-1 hockey game, in a 4-1 triumph. Jason Deitsch netted a pair of goals, including the game winner in the final frame. For the second time this week, Barret Ehgoetz registered a three assist game, while rookie David Desharnais had a pair of assists. Cedrick Desjardins stopped 25 shots in taking the victory.
ABOUT FRIDAY NIGHT...: The Cyclones claimed a 4-3 shootout victory over Trenton last night. Netting a pair of goals to overcome a pair of deficits, Cincinnati tied the game at 3-3 and won the contest with a shootout goal from Jason Deitsch, the lone tally of the frame. Dov Grumet-Morris stopped 42 shots during regulation and overtime and then turned away all five shots in the shootout to pick up the win. Travis Fuller, Matt Syroczynski and Cory Urquhart all netted the regulation time goals for the Cyclones.
BACK TO SCHOOL...: Wednesday morning was one of the 'Education In Hockey Day' games, that the Cyclones claimed, 8-3. Eight different goals scorers, a club record 14 players scoring points and a three power play goal effort highlighted the day. Cincinnati netted four goals in a 3:25 stretch of the first period to establish a comfortable lead. David Desharnais and Barret Ehgoetz each collected three points along the way.
THEY ARE CATCHING ON: The Cyclones drew 5871 for Saturday's game against Mississippi, the fourth time this season that the club has exceeded 5000 in attendance for a game--three of these have happened since the start of the new calendar year. U.S. Bank Arena has had an average of 2402 check out the Cyclones through 24 home dates, an increase of 43.7 percent in attendance through an equal number of dates from a year ago. The last time the Cyclones had five or more crowds of 5000 in a season was back during 2002-03, when the club had it happen eight times. In the eight games at U.S. Bank Arena since January 1, the Cyclones are averaging 3758 fans per contest.
DESHARNAIS SHINES: Cyclones rookie forward David Desharnais has enjoyed his first pro season. After signing with the Cyclones prior to the season, Desharnais was invited to Hamilton's training camp. He was later signed by the Bulldogs and re-assigned to Cincinnati. David presently leads the ECHL in scoring among rookies with 55 (13-42-55). He represented Cincinnati at the 2008 Rbk ECHL All-Star Game and had an assist in the contest. Since Dec. 31, Desharnais has a 15-game point scoring streak, netting 22 points during that span (2-20-22). David has a team-best twelve-game assist streak running currently (1-17-18).
COMEBACK KIDS: The win over Mississippi Saturday night, marked the fifteenth come-from-behind victory this club has pulled off this season. Last year, the club rallied 13 times to win games. This season, the Cyclones have rallied to win four times when trailing by two goals. All three overtime/shootout losses suffered by the team have been rallies as well. Altogether, Cincinnati has earned 33 points in the standings after it has trailed in a game.
THIRTEEN, FOURTEEN, FIFTEEN...: The Cyclones are riding a club record 15 game home unbeaten in regulation string (13-0-2). The run surpasses the eleven game stretch, set last year from Nov. 18 through Jan. 6 with a 9-0-2 mark. Cincinnati has not lost a game in regulation time at U.S. Bank Arena since Nov. 24, when Dayton beat the Cyclones, 4-2. The team is 18-3-3 (.813) at home.
GRUMET-MORRIS STANDS TALL: Cyclones goaltender Dov Grumet-Morris has won his last four starts and is 16-1-1 in his last 18 decisions. Since that stretch started on November 4, Grumet-Morris has a 2.43 goals against average and a .912 save percentage in those decisions. For the season, Dov has the third-most wins in the league and holds a 18-3-1 record, a 2.44 goals against average (ninth-best in the league) and a .908 save percentage.
THAT MAKES ZERO SENSE: The Cyclones are 21-8-1 when scoring the first goal of a game. They have an even more impressive 13-0-2 mark when they ALLOW the first goal of a game. Trailing a game, 2-0, Cincinnati is 4-0-0 in those situations as well. The club has not trailed 3-0 in a game this season.
TWENTY-SIX OVER!: With the nine game winning streak, the Cyclones are 26 games above .500 for the first time in team history. The last time a Cincinnati pro hockey team was 26 games above break even was at the end of the 1995-96 season when the IHL's Cyclones finished 29 games above .500, at 51-22-9 (.677 winning percentage).
ON A ROLL!: The Cyclones are the only ECHL team to have a better than .500 record against every team it has played this season. Cincinnati has played nine different opponents in 2007-08 and has at least one more win than loss against all of them. Las Vegas has an equal number of wins and losses to Victoria, but has otherwise accomplished the same feat.
WE'RE ONLY AT HOME WHEN WE'RE ON THE ROAD...: The Cyclones are 16-5 (.762 winning percentage) away from U.S. Bank Arena this season. Since Nov. 13 at Dayton, the Cyclones are 13-3 (.813) away from home.
JUST WIN, BABY: The Cyclones, with a record of 34-8-3, are 26 games above .500. The club reached a club record 19 games above break even (25-6-3) on Jan. 5. On March 19, 1995 the Louisville Riverfrogs beat Erie, 5-1, to improve to 38-22-8--the only time in history that the organization had been 16 games above break even. The last time a Cincinnati pro sports team was at least 20 games above .500 was when the Cincinnati Reds were 96-67 after their game on October 4, 1999. The Cyclones have the ECHL's second-best winning percentage (.789--trailing only Texas).
CEDRICK SLOWS THEM DOWN: Cyclones goaltender Cedrick Desjardins leads the ECHL with four shutouts and is second on the circuit with a 2.06 goals against average. Desjardins is 9-1-1 in his last eleven decisions, dating back to November 30. During that stretch, Cedrick has a league-best 1.82 goals against average and a league-best .939 save percentage.
WE ARE QUITE OFFENSIVE: The Cyclones have scored an ECHL-high 184 goals. Cincinnati is averaging 4.09 goals per game, the most in the ECHL. The club has also posted five games in which it has netted eight goals--which sets a team-record for most games with eight or more goals in a season.
GUNNING FOR 35 WINS!: The Cyclones picked up their 34th win of the Saturday night vs. Mississippi--setting a club record for earliest, and fastest, to the plateau. Previously, the 1995-96 Louisville squad had 34 wins on March 5 to establish both records. The average date in club history to register 35 wins is March 27. Last season, the Cyclones collected their 35th win on March 24.
SHATTER THIS!: The Cincinnati Cyclones won more games than ever prior to the All-Star break. The club was 21-13-3 at the All-Star break in 2006-07. Cincinnati was 26-8-3 this year. By February 11 of last season, the club already registered 17 losses. Since the All-Star Game, Cincinnati is 8-0.
CYCLONES COACHES SHOW: The Cyclones Coaches Show airs every Monday from Jefferson Hall at Newport on the Levee from 7-8pm. The show, features Head Coach Chuck Weber and two players each week. This week, Cincinnati defenseman A.J. Bozoian and forward Jimmy Bonneau are the guests.
