Checkers Present Alzheimer's Awareness Night

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Checkers have partnered with Cans Bar and Canteen for Alzheimer's Awareness Night on Feb. 13 from 7- 9 p.m.

Checkers players and CheckMates will serve as guest bartenders with a portion of the proceeds from the event benefiting the Alzheimer's Association. The night will also include a live auction, live music and drink specials. Cans Bar and Canteen is located at 500 W 5th Street in Uptown Charlotte. Checkers will be available for photos and autographs during the night.

"The Alzheimer's Association Western Carolina Chapter is thrilled to be partnering with the Charlotte Checkers as we "Shoot Out Alzheimer's!" More than five million Americans have Alzheimer's Disease, the seventh leading cause of death among adults in the United States. This new collaboration between the Charlotte Checkers and the Alzheimer's Association will help "Move" our cause forward, towards a world without Alzheimer's disease. "Shoot Out Alzheimer's!" will provide an excellent opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's disease," remarked Alzheimer's Association Western Carolina executive director, Jackie Rivers.

On March 8, when the Checkers take on the Dayton Bombers, a portion of proceeds from tickets purchased will also benefit the Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association's mission is to eliminate Alzheimer's disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for all affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health. The Checkers began their 15th season of play as a member of the ECHL. The next home game takes place on Feb 12 against the Wheeling Nailers. In the team's 14-year history, the Checkers have made the playoffs 10 times including three consecutive playoff appearances to date.
