Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH - Rookie All-Star Matt Beaudoin had two goals and one assist as the Dayton Bombers (21-18-4-4) defeated the Mississippi Sea Wolves 4-1 on Sunday at the E.J. Nutter Center.
The Bombers came out firing in the first period and opened scoring with a Brad Bonello goal late in the first frame with an assist from Ryan Smyth. Less than three minutes later Mike Walsh fed Beaudoin for his 28th goal of the season beating Sea Wolves goaltender Morgan Cey on a lightning quick wrap-around. The Bombers outshot the Sea Wolves 9-8 in the first taking a 2-0 lead into the locker room.
Mississippi managed the lone goal of the second period as Pat Oliveto snuck the puck past Dayton goaltender Jeremy Duchesne as time elapsed. The Bombers and Sea Wolves each fired seven shots throughout the period and Dayton maintained a one goal lead after two periods.
Dayton regained the two-goal lead when Beaudoin scored his league-leading 29th goal of the season off a Brad Bonello rebound. Team captain Greg Labenski also earned an assist on the play, his 150th career regular season ECHL point.
Chris Eade added an insurance empty-netter, his fifth goal of the season, to close out the game and give the Bombers their second straight victory.
Duchesne finished the night with 24 saves on 25 shots to earn his 10th professional win.
The win also marked Bombers' head coach Bill McDonald's 599th career coaching victory. His first crack at win number 600 will come at US Bank Arena on Wednesday night as the Bombers face the Cincinnati Cyclones.
The Bombers are on the road this week with games in Cincinnati on Wednesday, Reading on Friday and Johnstown on Saturday.
