Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

TRENTON, New Jersey - The Cincinnati Cyclones battled the odds Friday night at the Sovereign Bank Arena and claimed a 4-3 win over the Trenton Titans. Scoring three times in the first ten minutes of the game, the Cyclones won in a facility they had never collected a victory in.

The Cyclones opened the scoring in the first period, as Travis Lisabeth notched his 15th goal of the season at 1:58. Scott Reynolds and Chad Starling added the assists. The lead was extended to 2-0, when Mike Wirll buried his 36th score of the season at 9:25, as Lisabeth and Barret Ehgoetz tallied the assists. The lead went to 3-0 just 27 seconds later, at 9:52, when Matt Rogers scored his first ECHL goal after stealing a pass at his own blueline. The Titans got on the board 12 seconds later, at 10:04, when Scott Bertoli snuck home his 13th goal of the year. Trenton put the pressure on Cincinnati in the opening frame, outshooting the Cyclones, 14-9.

The second period saw no scoring, but Cyclones goaltender Ben Gray was sharp, stopping all 14 shots he faced in the frame to preserve the two goal lead. Gray finished the evening with 39 saves.

The Royals responded with three second period goals to open a 3-1 edge. Dany Rousin collected his sixth goal at 4:23. Joe Zappala gave Reading the lead at 14:30 with his 14th score of the season. Brett Smith's goal at 17:48, his 17th of the campaign, gave the Royals a two goal cushion heading into the third period.

Veteran Sam Ftorek collected his 16th goal from Jason Deitsch at 5:32 of the final frame to extend the lead to 4-1. Mark Pandolfo's 12th goal at 14:53 got Trenton close and Scott Bertoli's second of the night at 19:52 was too little, too late for the Titans.

Gray picked up the victory, his second in two games with the Cyclones, to push his season record to 6-7.

The Cincinnati Cyclones, who had eight players on recall to the American Hockey League, including both goaltenders, won for the first time ever at the Sovereign Bank Arena. The Cyclones were 0-5 all-time in the facility prior to tonight, including a 7-5 defeat in the first meeting between the teams played this season back on Oct. 27. Cincinnati had not won a road game on a Friday night this season (0-5), prior to this evening.

The Cyclones are now 28-19-2-2, leaders of the North Division lead by five points over Trenton. Trenton is 25-21-1-4 and is in second place in the North Division. The Cyclones continue their seven game road trip tomorrow (Feb. 24) at Trenton at 7pm. The club returns to U.S. Bank Arena on Friday, March 9 against Dayton at 7:30pm.
