Trenton Devils News Release
TRENTON, NJ (February 23, 2007) - The Trenton Titans dug themselves an early hole which they could not climb out of in a 4-3 loss to the Cincinnati Cyclones in front of 3.952 at the Sovereign Bank Arena.
It did not take long for the Cyclones to break the scoreless tie on Friday night as Travis Lisabeth banged a rebound from Scott Reynold's point shot into the Titans' net just 1:58 into the contest. Lisabeth then provided the first assist on a near-identical goal by linemate Mike Wirll that made the score 2-0 at 9:25. Seventeen seconds later Matt Rogers picked up a loose puck at his own blueline and took it the length of ice for a wrist shot that found the back of the net and chased Joel Martin from the game in favor of Gregg Naumenko.
Scott Bertoli helped Trenton respond eighteen seconds after Rogers' goal tipping Jim Henkel's slapshot under the pads of Cyclone goalie Ben Gray. The Titans would skate through the rest of the period and a scoreless second down 3-1.
Cincinnati went back up by three goals at 5:52 of final frame as Sam Ftorek completed a 2-on-1 with a Jason Deitsch.
Mark Pandolfo helped mount a Titans comeback with a marker at 14:53 of the third period. Then, working with the extra attacker with time dwindling down, Jay Pemberton rifled a slapshot off the back wall that Bertoli fired past an outstretched Gray with just eight seconds left in the contest. Trenton would be unable to notch the game-tying goal in the little time remaining.
Naumenko took the loss despite stopping 22-of-23 shots. The Titans were 0-for-5 on the man-advantage and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.
