Crunch Fall to Marlies, 5-2
December 9, 2022 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Syracuse Crunch News Release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Syracuse Crunch were defeated by the Toronto Marlies, 5-2, tonight at the Upstate Medical University Arena.
The Crunch move to 9-9-2-2 on the season and 2-2-1-0 in the six-game season series against the Marlies.
Crunch goaltender Hugo Alnefelt stopped 23-of-26 shots. Keith Petruzzelli earned the win turning aside 34-of-36 between the pipes for the Marlies
Syracuse was scoreless on five power play opportunities, while Toronto went 1-for-4.
The Crunch opened scoring 7:10 into the game. As soon as Alex Barre-Boulet left the penalty box, he received a pass from Darren Raddysh. Barre-Boulet proceeded to stick handled into the zone and waited until Petruzzelli went down to stuff the puck between his left foot and the goal post.
Three minutes later, Alex Steeves evened the score for Toronto when he backhanded a shot in from the slot. The Marlies stole the lead with a power-play goal late in the opening frame. Steeves fired a one-timer from the right circle that snuck past Alnefelt for Joseph Blandisi to tap across the goal line.
Toronto built on their lead with another goal 2:49 into the third period. After the Crunch broke up a play, Nick Abruzzese grabbed the loose puck and fed Semyon Der-Arguchintsev for a one-timer from the right circle. At the 15:55 mark, Steeves potted his second of the night into the empty net.
The Crunch came back within two with 2:56 remaining in the game. Raddysh sent a cross-zone feed for Gemel Smith to score from the bottom of the left circle. Blandisi ended a Crunch comeback when he hit the empty net for his second of the game to secure a Marlies win.
The Crunch host the Utica Comets tomorrow night.
