Kalamazoo Wings News Release
Countdown to Face-off Kalamazoo Wings Vs Flint Generals Wings Stadium Friday, February 7, 2003 7:30 PM
Game Preview If there were ever a game you had to call a "must win game" in the month of February, tonight would be the game. Kalamazoo enters the contest 5 points behind the Flint Generals in the playoff hunt, and Rockford by 4 points for 4th place in the Western Conference. While this is the sixth of eight meetings between the teams, this will be the last visit for the Generals to Wings Stadium in the regular season. So far this year, the K-Wings are 0-2-0 against Flint on home ice.
The Generals performed well for Head Coach Robbie Nichols in his Flint season debut, and in return the Generals ended a 3 game losing streak. Tonight it will be the K-Wings looking to end a 3-game losing streak. The K-Wings will also enter the contest with a reality check after Kalamazoo made a few roster moves yesterday. Kalamazoo waived veteran forward Jim Brown and goaltender Stu Dunn. The waiving of Brown gives the K-Wings 6 veterans on their active roster. The K-Wings also inked a quality netminder with the signing of Jason Brown. The rookie goaltender will serve as the backup to Chad Alban. Jason has already found a liking to Wings Stadium, as he won his first professional hockey game here back on November 16, 2002, as a member of the Missouri River Otters.

Brown and Dunn Waived The Kalamazoo Wings have waived Jim Brown and Stu Dunn. Jim Brown was in his 9th season as a professional and his second in Kalamazoo. This season with the K-Wings Brown scored 28 points in 35 games and a plus/minus of -10. Stu Dunn who was in his 7th season as a professional saw just 3 games in a K-Wings jersey. Dunn had a goals against average of 6.05 and a save percentage of .898.
K-Wings Sign Rookie Goaltender The Kalamazoo Wings have signed rookie goaltender Jason Brown. Brown, who comes to Kalamazoo as a free agent from the Pee Dee Pride (ECHL) is already familiar with Wings Stadium. Jason won his first professional game at Wings Stadium earlier this season as a member of the Missouri River Otters. Brown led the River Otters to a 5-4 victory over Kalamazoo back on November 16th.
Welcome Back The K-Wings will also add some support at defense tonight, as both Herman Hultgren and Tyson Turgeon return to the lineup. Hultgren hasn't seen game action since December 12th at Quad City, when he was injured in the second period of the game. Turgeon has been out of the lineup for three weeks. While two players are returning to the lineup, one is heading onto the IR, as Jordan Trew has been placed on the team's 7-Day IR. The K-Wings also upgraded defenseman Matt Kruzich from the 7 Day to the 10 Day IR.
Keyes Off the Snide With his assist on Kurt Miller's goal in the first period of Wednesday's game ends a scoring drought for Keyes. Up to that assist, Keyes has been held pointless in his last 7 games.
Battle for Media Supremacy In tonight's first period, we will witness the biggest bout his Ali-Frasier, when WWMT's John Koch will square off against WQSN's Ryan Maguire in the Best 2 out of 3 Sumo Contest.
