Ice Pilots Shutout Sea Wolves, 1-0

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Mississippi wrapped up its seven-game road trip by falling 1-0 at Pensacola.

The Sea Wolves went 2-5-0 on the road swing, but remain 10 games above the break even point at 28-18-4.

The first period was a rough and tumble scoreless stanza. A total of five fighting majors were assessed and four game misconducts.

There was no scoring in the second period. Through 40 minutes of action, the Sea Wolves outshot the Ice Pilots, 25-21. Both goaltenders were terrific. Mississippi's Greg Gardner and Pensacola's Maxime Gingras put on a goaltenders clinic.The best chance of the period came off the stick of Ice Pilots defenseman Brad Dexter. His blast from the right point rattled off the goal post, but stayed out of the net.

In the third period, Pensacola (27-17-5) opened the score at the 23 second mark on the power play. Jamie Herrington notched his 16th goal of the season, slipping it past Gardner.

Mississippi peppered Gingras with nine shots in the third, but were foiled on each occasion.

Gardner stopped 36-of-37, dropping to 20-14-4. Gingras picked up his second shutout of the season, turning away all 34 shots to raise his record to 19-13-5.

Mississippi failed to capitalize on five power play opportunities. Pensacola converted on 1-of-8 chances with the man advantage.

The Sea Wolves return home for a Sunday game against the Peoria Rivermen at 5:05 p.m. at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. Adults purchasing an individual game ticket, receive one FREE ticket for a child 12 and under.
