February 7, 2003 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego Gulls look to regain sole possession of second place when they take on the Bakersfield Condors tonight at the Sports Arena.

San Diego and Bakersfield come into tonight's game tied with 56 points apiece, 16 behind the first-place Idaho Steelheads. The Fresno Falcons are also knocking on the door, three points behind the Gulls and Condors.

The Gulls are coming off a six-game road trip, which saw them go 3-2-1. They come home to the Sports Arena, where they've won 11 of 13. The Blue and Orange have earned at least one point in 20 of its last 24 games overall (19-4-1).

Trevor Koenig won his 100th career West Coast Hockey League game Wednesday, in San Diego's 2-1 triumph against Fresno. He's now only one of five goalies to reach the century mark in the WCHL. Koenig still needs seven more W's for 100 in his Gulls tenure.

After running a six-game winning streak, Bakersfield is now winless in five of its last seven (2-2-3). The Condors close out a quick three-game road trip tonight. They split the first two games in Anchorage.

Paul Willett leads the club with 52 points, fourth in the WCHL. He's second in the league with 35 assists. Willett notched four points (3g, 1a) Wednesday against the Aces.

Kevin St. Pierre continues to be the backbone in net for the Condors. He holds a 23-6-6 record and a league-best .932 save percentage. Bakersfield is only 1-8-2 when St. Pierre does not play.

San Diego leads the season series 6-4-0. The Gulls are 40-5-1 all-time against the Condors at home. The two teams will clash three more times in the regular season.

All games can be heard live on 1130AM-KSDO with Chris Ello calling the play-by-play. The Gulls' Internet radio show broadcasts live every Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on wsradio.com with Tera Black and Jeremy Zager hosting.
