Bakersfield Condors News Release
Bakersfield, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors and the Spanish Radio Group are teaming up this weekend to hold the first ever live Spanish-language broadcast of a sporting event from Centennial Garden. The game to be carried is Sunday's contest at home against the Long Beach Ice Dogs at 5:00pm.
The game will be carried live on KWAC La Nortena 1490 AM, with Jose Morales handling the play-by-play duties and Jorge Escalante and Juan Manuel Martinez serving as color commentators. Martinez serves as production director of 1490 AM. Following the game, there will be a live call-in show as well.
"The Condors are thrilled to have this opportunity," said Condors President & GM Matthew Riley. "We've always attempted to embrace the entire Bakersfield community, and this is a huge step in reaching a portion of this market in a whole new way. It's going to be an historic night and a lot of fun."
"I think it's a win-win situation for the Condors and the Hispanic Community," said Spanish Radio Group GM Mike Allen. "This is a great opportunity to introduce the sport to a big group of loyal sports fans. I know they'll enjoy it."
The broadcast will not replace the regular broadcast on the Condors flagship station, KGEO AM 1230.
Sunday's game features a Cheer Sign giveaway to everyone in attendance. The Cheer Signs are sponsored by the Bakersfield Californian, Real Rock 104.3 and Coleman Homes, and feature a full-color action shot of Condors defenseman Quinn Fair.
Individual tickets can be purchased at the Centennial Garden Box Office, which opens at 10am on Sunday and is open through the start of the game, by calling Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at ticketmaster.com or stopping by any Ticketmaster location. Season tickets and group outings may be purchased by calling 324-PUCK (7825) or by visiting the Condors office next to Centennial Garden.
