Louisiana IceGators News Release
Baton Rouge, LA â Kyle Kettles made 27 saves to post his third shutout, leading the Louisiana IceGators past the Baton Rouge Kingfish, 3-0, at the Riverside Centroplex. Shawn McNeil, Bobby Brown and Kenny Corupe all scored for Louisiana, which has just one regulation loss in its last eight games (5-1-2) and saw its magic number slide to 14 points.
The IceGators, who snapped a two-game road skid, play at Pensacola on Saturday at 7:05 p.m., then return home to face the Ice Pilots at 4:05 p.m. Sunday.
Niklas Sundberg recorded 31 saves for the Kingfish, who failed to win for the ninth time in 10 games (1-8-1).
Louisiana scored once in each period for the victory, while Kettles, who established a new franchise record with his 12th straight start, kept the Kingfish off the board. Kettles is tied for the ECHL lead with three shutouts.
McNeil got things started with his 29th of the season, on the power play, at 10:18 of the first period. Daniel Goneau and Semir Ben-Amor each picked up an assist on the play. Twenty-four of McNeil's 29 goals have either given the IceGators the lead or tied the game. Kettles, meanwhile, made nine saves in the stanza.
Brown scored his 22nd early in the second, at the 4:43 mark, to put Louisiana up 2-0. Goneau and Rod Sarich picked up the assists on the goal, which gave Brown 200 career ECHL points. Kettles stopped nine shots again in the second, as the IceGators held a two-goal lead heading into the third.
Corupe's 15th of the season came just 1:50 into the third, on an assist from Shawn Skiehar, to account for the final margin. Skiehar extended his point streak to a career-high tying three games with the helper.
Kettles made nine saves in the third to finish the shutout â his second in Baton Rouge this season.
