Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors moved into second place in the Pacific Division at the All-Star Break, beating the Fresno Falcons, 4-3, Sunday night, in front of 6,194 at Rabobank Arena. Goaltender Jamie Hodson stopped 17 shots to earn his 100th professional win.
Fresno (21-12-2, 44) got on the board first, converting on a power-play at 1:18, when Tyler Kindle tipped a shot by Dustin VanBallegooie past Hodson.
Bakersfield (21-11-3, 45 points) tied it up late in the period on a five-on-three advantage, as Kevin Truelson fired a wrister past a screened Ryan McDonald to knot the game at one. Alex Kim's assist on the goal was the 100th of his career.
The Falcons took the lead back in the second period. With the Condors on the power-play, John Morlang broke down the left wing, fed Luke Curtin, and the leading scorer for the Falcons put it up high for the 2-1 lead.
Bakersfield tied it up again on the power-play at 7:37. After Sean Venedam battled two Falcons to keep the puck in the zone, he pushed it to Andrew Ianiero, who found Brett Lutes all alone in front, and he stuffed it in for his team-leading 19th of the season.
The Condors finally took the lead late in the second, when Alex Rogosheske streaked down the left side and snapped a shot that McDonald got a piece of but couldn't keep out of his net. The short-handed goal at 17:12 was Rogosheske's first of the season.
Kim gave the Condors some cushion early in the third, taking an outlet pass from Ianiero, cutting around one defenseman, and beating McDonald over the glove to make it 4-2 at 1:49 of the third.
Fresno came right back, when John Morlang's blast deflected off Kevin Truelson's stick and went over Hodson's shoulder at 2:27 to cut it to 4-3.
But Hodson and the defense kept the Falcons at bay for the remainder of the contest to skate off with the victory.
Notes: Lutes has a six-game points streak (4g, 4a). Steve Rodberg has a five- game points streak (1g, 5a), with an assist in each of the contests.
Todd Griffith will compete in three events and Rane Carnegie will participate in two at the Rbk Hockey ECHL All-Stars Competition Tuesday in Boise, Idaho. Griffith will participate in the "Fastest Skater," "Rapid Fire" and "Breakaway Relay" competitions. Carnegie will also take part in the "Breakaway Relay" and "Hardest Shot" competitions. The two will also both play in the All-Star game the next night.
