July 15, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Syracuse Crunch News Release
Syracuse, NY (July 16, 2003) â The Syracuse Crunch announced today that the Columbus Blue Jackets have signed center Mark Hartigan to a one-year contract.
Hartigan, who was a finalist for the 2002 Hobey Baker Award as the top player in college hockey, spent his rookie pro season in the Atlanta Thrashers organization a year ago.
"We had substantial interest in Mark as a college free agent and we are happy to have a second opportunity to bring him into our organization," said Jim Clark, Blue Jackets Executive Vice-President and Assistant General Manager. "We believe Mark can be a solid NHL player in the future."
Hartigan, 25, split the 2002-03 season between the Thrashers and Chicago Wolves, Atlanta's American Hockey League affiliate. He appeared in 23 games with Atlanta, tallying five goals and two assists for seven points with six penalty minutes. In 55 games with the Wolves, he picked up 15-31-46 and 43 penalty minutes. The 2002-03 season was his first as a professional.
The 6-0, 205-pound native of Fort St. John, British Columbia played three seasons at St. Cloud State (Minnesota) University from 1999-02. He earned All-America honors, was the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Year and a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2001-02. He racked up 37-38-75 and 28 penalty minutes in 42 games that season and led the NCAA in goals and shorthanded goals (six) and was sixth in assists and power play goals (12). He also became the first player in St. Cloud St. history to lead the WCHA in scoring.
He turned pro at the conclusion of the 2001-02 season after notching 86-79-165 and 72 penalty minutes in 119 games at St. Cloud St., where he was a teammate of Blue Jackets defenseman Duvie Westcott from 1999-01. Hartigan set numerous school records, including most career goals, and registered 48 multi-point games in his three seasons.
Season tickets for the 2003-04 season are now available. Fans interested in purchasing season tickets or the 1492 Package can contact the Crunch office at (315) 473-4444, Monday thru Friday, from 9-5 p.m.
