Moose Renew Old Rivalries
July 15, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose, in conjunction with the American Hockey League, today released the schedule format for the upcoming 2003-04 season. Each AHL team, including the Moose, will play an 80-game unbalanced schedule. The league's 68th season will open on Wednesday, October 8th and finish on Sunday, April 11th. The League's announcement of the schedule format follows last week's official release of the 2003-2004 Divisional and Conference re-alignment. The AHL's 28 active member clubs will utilize a new alignment consisting of four divisions and two conferences. Manitoba has moved to the Western Conference and will now play in the North Division.
The 2003-04 schedule for the Moose will see the team play all of their division rivals, renew traditional rivalries with the five old International Hockey League (IHL) clubs, as well as play two out-of-conference teams. Overall, Manitoba will face seven teams in 2003-04 they have never played before. The Moose will play Chicago, Grand Rapids, Houston, Milwaukee, and Utah four times each, as well as new division rival Syracuse. Other members of the North Division, such as Rochester, Cleveland, the expansion Toronto Roadrunners, the St. John's Maple Leafs, and the AHL Eastern Conference Champion Hamilton Bulldogs will meet Manitoba eight times each. Moose fans will also get the opportunity to see the AHL affiliates of both Stanley Cup finalists in 2003, as New Jersey's affiliate in Albany will play Manitoba four times, as will Anaheim's affiliate in Cincinnati. The Moose will also face Binghamton and San Antonio four times each.
The league will release the official 2003-04 regular season schedule in early August.
