Worcester IceCats News Release
WORCESTER, MA- The American Hockey League (AHL) today released the 2003-2004 season schedule frequency grid for its 28 member teams. The attached chart reveals the IceCats 80-game slate dominated by division and conference foes.
The IceCats, set to begin their historic 10th Anniversary Season, were recently aligned in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference, consisting of Hartford, Lowell, Manchester, Portland, Providence and Springfield. Fifty-eight of the IceCats 80 games will come against those Atlantic Division rivals, with five home and five road contests featured against all but Hartford. Worcester will battle the Wolf Pack four times in Worcester and four in Connecticut.
The IceCats will play all members of the East Division twice, with one game coming against each opponent in Worcester and one on the road. The IceCats dip into the Western Conference for a total of eight games, playing three teams in the West Division. The âCats will challenge San Antonio and the defending Calder Cup Champion Houston Aeros once at home and on the road. The meeting with the Rampage will be the âCats first. For a second straight season, the St. Louis Blues' affiliate will head to Utah for a pair, and also host the Grizzlies twice. The âCats will not play any teams in the North Division.
Last season, the IceCats clashed with 19 of the 28 teams. This season's 16 is certainly above average, with Philadelphia facing off against the greatest number of opponents. The Phantoms will see 19 of the AHL's 28 clubs. The league average is just a shade over 14 opponents per team. The IceCats will meet the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, a team they have not played since the 2000-2001 season. And after a year off from competition with Houston and Hershey, the clubs will reacquaint during 2003-2004.
A full schedule, with dates and opponents, is expected to be released by the AHL in the coming weeks. The IceCats currently have five guaranteed home dates at Worcester's Centrum Centre, including their home opener on October 11th. Season ticket packages and group bookings for Opening Night are available now by calling the IceCats Ticket Department at 800-830-CATS.
