Buffalo Sabres Sign Defenseman David Cullen

(Rochester, NY)...The Rochester Americans announced today that defenseman David Cullen has signed a one-year contract with the Buffalo Sabres.

Last season, Cullen (6-2, 210) was a member of the 2003 Calder Cup champion Houston Aeros. With Houston, he scored two goals and added 27 assists for 29 points in 72 games. In the playoffs, he recorded three goals and four assists in 23 games.

The 26 year old has played four seasons of professional hockey, spending parts of three seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes and Springfield Falcons before being acquired by the Minnesota Wild in January 2002.

In 272 AHL games, he registered 31 goals and 96 assists for 127 points. Cullen has also played in 19 NHL regular season games. His best offensive season was in 2000-01, when he collected 42 points (13+29) in 69 games with the Springfield Falcons.

The St. Catharines, Ontario, native played four years of college hockey before he broke into the pros with Springfield in 1999-2000. As a member of the University of Maine Black Bears he won the 1999 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Championship, along with current Amerks defenseman Doug Janik.
