July 15, 2003 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release
HOUSTON - The Calder Cup Champion Houston Aeros announced today that the American Hockey League unveiled the schedule format for the 2003-04 season. The announcement came from the AHL Board of Governors' annual meeting on Hilton Head Island, S.C. Each team will play an unbalanced 80-game schedule, dominated by inter-divisional play.
The Aeros, part of the recently announced seven-team West Division, will play division foes 60 times this season. The San Antonio Rampage will be Houston's most common opponent for the second season in a row. The I-10 rivals face each 12 times, six at each arena. The Aeros face division opponents: Chicago Wolves, Grand Rapids Griffins, Milwaukee Admirals and Utah Grizzlies 10 times each (five home, five away). Houston plays new division foe, the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, eight times.
Out of division/conference games are limited to 20 for the Calder Cup champions. The Aeros will play the Cleveland Barons, Manitoba Moose and Norfolk Admirals four times each (two home, two away). Houston will face off against the Hartford Wolf Pack, Rochester Americans, Syracuse Crunch and Worcester IceCats twice each (one home, one away). The only new opponent this season for Houston is Syracuse. The Bridgeport Sound Tigers were dropped from Houston's schedule.
