Canucks Re-Sign Defenceman Marek Malik

Vancouver, B.C. - Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Brian Burke announced today that the Canucks have re-signed defenceman Marek Malik to a two year contract. In keeping with club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Malik, 28, recorded 18 points (7-11-18) in 69 regular season games with Vancouver. He also recorded two assists in 10 games with Carolina before being traded to Vancouver with Darren Langdon on November 1, 2002. Malik played in all 14 of Vancouver's playoff games last season recording one goal, one assist (1-1-2) and 10 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-5, 235 pound defenceman has played 386 career NHL games, notching 24 goals, 71 assists (24-71-95) and 343 penalty minutes. The native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, was selected 72nd overall by the Hartford Whalers in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
