
IceCat named AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, MA â The American Hockey League today named Worcester IceCats centerman Jay McClement the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 13, 2005. In four games, McClement scored two goals and notched six assists for eight points, as the IceCats bid for solid ground in the Atlantic Division.
The âCats, currently in fourth in the Atlantic, were carried by McClement during the first game of the week, a 7-3 win over Portland. The second year pro bagged two goals and three assists, with the last goal coming shorthanded and unassisted. He is tied for the league lead with five man-down goals. That is a new franchise record as is his six unassisted tallies. He went on to add three more assists for the âCats during the week, as Worcester grabbed five out of a possible eight points in the standings.
McClement, a 22-year old native of Kingston, Ontario, was the Blues first pick, 57th overall in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. The gentleman center is currently third on the team in scoring with 36 points on 12 goals and 24 assists in 64 games: 64(12/24/36). During his rookie season in Worcester, the two time member of the Canadian World Junior Team, scored 12 goals, including two shorthanded, and 25 points total: 69(12/23/25)
In recognition of his achievement, McClement will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming IceCats home game. The IceCats travel to Norfolk and Philadelphia on the front end of a four game road trip, with 12:15 PM faceoff in Virginia kicking things off this Wednesday afternoon.
