IceCats' McClement named CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Worcester IceCats center Jay McClement has been named the CCM Vector/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 13, 2005. In four games, McClement scored two goals and assisted on six others for eight points as the IceCats continued to battle for a playoff spot in the Atlantic Division.
McClement began the week with a career-best performance, scoring twice and adding three assists as Worcester defeated Portland, 7-3. The five points matched a 2004-05 season high in the AHL. McClement came back with an assist in the IceCats' 6-5 win over Albany on Friday, and set up two goals in Worcester's come-from-behind 5-2 win over Providence on Saturday. McClement's four-game scoring streak, a personal career best, ended in Sunday's loss to Philadelphia.
In recognition of his achievement, McClement will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming IceCats home game.
The 22-year-old McClement is in his second professional season after being selected by St. Louis in the second round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. A native of Kingston, Ont., McClement has 12 goals and 24 assists for 36 points in 64 games for Worcester in 2004-05, and is tied for the league lead with five shorthanded markers. McClement, who made his pro debut during the 2003 Calder Cup Playoffs, had 12 goals and 13 assists in 69 games as a rookie with the IceCats last season.
