Admirals, Wolves tied for first

OVERALL...The Admirals (39-18-3-4) picked up all four points this week and share the AHL's West Division lead with the Chicago Wolves (39-19-5-2). The Admirals have won three straight and are 4-4-0-2 over the past 10 games.

THIS WEEK...The Ads face two North Division rivals this week. They are 12-1-2-1 vs. the North, including 5-0-1-1 at the BC.

VS. MANITOBA...Milwaukee is 1-0-1-0 vs. the Moose this season with both games being played in Manitoba. The Moose feature former Admirals goaltender and Calder Cup MVP Wade Flaherty.

VS. EDMONTON...The Ads are 1-1 in two games vs. Edmonton with both games being played in Edmonton. The Admirals are 4-2 lifetime vs. the Edmonton/Toronto franchise, including 1-1 at the Bradley Center.

LAST WEEKEND'S ACTION... The Admirals won both games last week, including their first shootout victory since April 8, 2001. Brad Tiley's shorthanded goal with 3:46 left in the game tied the game at 3-3 and Milwaukee went on to defeat the Barons, 4-3 in a shootout. On Thursday night, Brian Finley picked up his second straight shutout stopping 24 shots in a 5-0 victory over the Houston Aeros. Scottie Upshall scored two goals for the Ads.

RETURNING TO THE SCENE...Flaherty will return to the Bradley Center for the first time since he was selected as the AHL Playoff MVP last year after guiding the Admirals to their first ever professional championship. The Terrace, BC native was 21-12-3 with 2.18 GAA and a .922 save percentage during the regular season with the Ads last year before setting an AHL record of 16 wins, a record that will never be broken, in the post-season. In addition, Flaherty posted a 1.93 goals against average and a .932 save percentage during the Ads run to the Cup. After signing with Vancouver Canucks organization during the off-season, the 16-year professional hockey veteran is 14-8-2 with a 2.38 GAA and .918 save percentage in 27 games with the Moose.

TO BLANK OR BE BLANKED...The Ads have been shutout six times this season, one shy of the club record of seven, which was established during the 2001-02 season. They have also tied the club record, established during 2000-01, by shutting out their opponents six times this season.

ONE GOAL GAMES...Thirty-two of the Admirals 64 games have been decided by one goal and the Ads are 16-7-3-4 in those contests. Thirteen games have finished 3-2 with the Admirals holding a record of 8-2-2-1 in 3-2 frays. The Ads are 2-3 in five, 1-0 games this season. The Admirals have played only 17, 1-0 games in franchise history and are 7-9 with one shootout loss.

NEWCOMERS... Recent additions Brendan Yarema and Paul Brown have made instant impacts. Yarema picked up an assist in each of his first two Admiral's outings and is +3. Brown, who was recently recalled from the Trenton (ECHL) Titans, notched his first AHL goal on Thursday night. He is now +2 with 31 penalty minutes in six games with the Admirals. Brown was the Predator's third round selection (89th overall) in the 2003 draft.

TRANSACTIONS... Right wing Brandon Segal and goaltender Seamus Kotyk were both reassigned to the Rockford (UHL) IceHogs. Segal has 15 points (7g-8a) in 55 games for the Admirals. It's the second trip to Rockford for Kotyk, who posted a 3-1 mark, with a .76 goals against average and a .971 save percentage earning UHL Goaltender of the Week honors in early February. Goaltender Michel Robinson joined the Admirals on loan from Rockford. Robinson ranks fifth among UHL goaltenders with a 2.49 goals against average and a 28-16-7 mark. He is 1-0 in one game with Milwaukee with a 3.00 GAA.

HOME COOKIN'...The Admirals are 4-1 in the first five games of a franchise record nine-game homestand. The next four and 7 of the next 9 games will be at the BC. The Ads return to the road with a two-game series in Cincinnati on March 25th and 26th.

OVERTIME/SHOOTOUT NUMBERS... The Ads are 5-3 in 13 overtime games this season with five shootouts. The Admirals were the last AHL team to garner a shootout win this season and are now 1-4 in shootouts. The Admirals last shootout win was a 5-4 decision at Houston on April 8, 2001 and their last home shootout victory was 3-2 over the Griffins on January 20, 2001.

ONLY 16 LEFT...The Admirals' have 85 points (39-18-3-4) after 64 games compared to 84 (37-17-7-3) at the same point last year. On the road, the Ads had 44 points (19-9-3-3) after 34 road games last season compared to 43 points (19-10-2-3) this season. On home ice, Milwaukee is 20-8-1-1 this season compared to 17-9-4 after 30 home games in 2003-04. Last season the Admirals were 9-1, including 4-0 at home, in games 61 through 70.

CENTURY MARK... Claude Noel surpassed the 100 victory mark overall, including playoffs as coach of the Admirals. He enters this week's action with a 101-48-7-10 mark (.660) in 166 games.

COME-FROM-BEHIND VICTORY... Saturday night's victory was the third time this season that the Ads came back from a deficit after two periods to win. The Admirals are now 3-12-0-0 this season, including 1-5 on home ice when trailing after two. Last season, the Ads were 0-17-3-1 when trailing after two. Prior to Saturday night, you have to go back to December 26, 2002 to find the Ads last victory on BC ice when trailing after two periods. That evening they rebounded from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Wolves, 4-3.

GAMACHE... Simon Gamache leads Admirals scorers and ranks third in the AHL with 73 points. His 49 assists rank fourth among AHL playmakers and his 14 power play goals also rank him among league leaders.

FINLEY...Brian Finley is third among AHL netminders with 30 victories and ranks 10th with a 2.15 goals against average. He became only the fifth goaltender in franchise history to reach the 30-win plateau. He needs just five victories to tie the Admirals' team record of 35, which was established by Lindsay Middlebrook during the 1985-86 season. Other goaltenders to win 30-plus games for the Admirals include: Rich Sirois, who won 34 in 81-82 and 32 in 82-83; Rob Holland 34 in 86-87; and Danny Lorenz 33 in 96-97. Finley's six shutouts are the most in a season by an Admirals goaltender and his ten career Admirals' shutouts tie him with Chris Mason for the franchise record.

UPSHALL...Scottie Upshall has scored in six of his last seven games producing eight points (5g-3a) over that span. The 21-year old, Fort McMurray, Alberta native has three goals over his last two games and 31 points, including 13 goals, in 46 games this season.

SPECIAL TEAMS...The Admirals lead the AHL with 70 power play goals and rank third in power play percentage completing 70 of 371 chances for an 18.9% completion rate. The Ads are four of 24 (16.7%) on the power play over the last four games, but have only six power play tallies in 73 chances (8.2%) over the last 15 games.
