Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Colorado Eagles scored a late empty-netter to defeat the Utah Grizzlies 4-2 Saturday night at Maverik Center before 5,259 fans.
The empty-net goal ended a game that was either tied or within a goal for the first 59 minutes and 12 seconds. The loss ends Utah's two-game winning streak as the Eagles extend their unbeaten streak to six games at 5-0-1-0.
$10,175 was raised in the post-game specialty jersey auction for the Angel's Hands Foundation.
"We came out hard again but we didn't follow that up," said Head Coach/General Manager Tim Branham. "It looked like we were tired there in the second and third, not sure why, we had plenty of rest, I just think we weren't ready tonight."
Utah took a 1-0 lead 15:27 into the first period as Kris Hogg hammered in a rebound for his third goal of the year. Brent Gwidt and Danick Paquette drew assists on the play.
Colorado came out in the second period and scored two goals in 3:04, the final one shorthanded, to take a 2-1 lead.
Utah tied the game as Rylan Galiardi scored his third goal in three games 22 seconds into a power-play as Michael Pelech acted as a screen in front of the net. Teigan Zahn and Mathieu Aubin picked up assists.
The Eagles scored the game-winning goal 3:33 into the third period as Riley Nelson hammered in a rebound on a power-play.
In the third, Utah had two chances to tie on the power-play and another solid opportunity off of a face-off six-on-five with just over a minute to play, but they were unable to tie the game.
Igor Babkov took the loss in goal, stopping 17 of 20 Colorado shots.
Monday is another Maverik Monday. Get six tickets for $30 at the arena box office with a receipt from Maverik. Face-off is at 7 p.m.
