
Stingrays Roll Past Gladiators 2-1

North Charleston, S.C. - Forward Wayne Simpson scored his first professional goal and netminder Jeff Jakaitis made 26 saves to lead the South Carolina Stingrays (10-1-1-1) over the Gwinnett Gladiators (4-10-0-0) 2-1 at the North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon.
The Gladiators kicked off the scoring late in the first period with a power-play tally from forward Maxime Legault lifting a rebound over the pad of Stingrays goaltender Jeff Jakaitis (W, 26 saves on 27 shots) at 15:56. With 58 seconds left in the frame, Stingrays forward Wayne Simpson tied the contest with his first professional goal from forward Scott Campbell and defenseman Steve Spinell.
Forward Chad Painchaud buried the eventual game-winning tally at 7:52 of the second period blasting a shot between the legs of Gladiators netminder Peter Delmas (L, 27 saves on 29 shots) from the left-wing circle. Forwards Jordan Owens and Andrew Cherniwchan added assists.
