TONIGHT:
The defending Pacific Division Champion Ontario Reign (8-1-1-3) will head to the Cow Palace in Daly City to face the San Francisco Bulls (4-6-1-1); this game will complete the team's second longest road trip of the season. In their first meeting of 2013-14, Ontario shut out the Bulls 2-0 at Citizens Business Bank Arena giving Michael Hutchinson his second shutout of the season.
Last year the Reign had a successful season series over the Bulls with a 9-1-0-0 record which included three seven-goal victory margins in favor of Ontario. There are six Bulls players returning to the team this season including former Ontario Reign forward Jordan Morrison. Another former Reign player is Steven Tarasuk who wore orange and navy during the 2011-12 season before being traded to the Idaho Steelheads.
JET LAG SHMET LAG:
Ontario has spent the last 10 days traveling to five different arenas in three different states, but have held on to a 4-1-0-1 record since their first road game in Utah on November 8. The Reign have 18 goals-for and 14 goals-against including five power-play goals, an area they had low numbers in before the start of the road trip. As the most penalized team, Ontario showed some more discipline in their most recent contests with an average of 15.3 penalty minutes in the last three games and has resulted in an 80 percent penalty kill in the same number of games.
TOPPING THE CHARTS:
With their 4-2 win over the Condors last night, the Reign tied the Aces in the Western Conference standings with 20 points on the season and a 76.9 win average, the Reign are in a spot to move into the number one position in the West, and are one of only three teams in the league with only one regulation loss. Dan DaSilva is now just one point shy of tying the league lead in points, he currently has 23 (6g, 17a) and Michael Hutchinson is one win away from tying the league lead in goaltender wins.
