Spokane Chiefs News Release
Kent, Wash. - The Spokane Chiefs got on the board first, but fell short against the Seattle Thunderbirds to kick off their road trip Friday night, falling 3-1.
The Chiefs struck quickly, scoring the first goal of the game at 1:12 in the first period when forward Chase Bertholet netted his 17th goal of the season with an assist from Nick McCarry.
The Thunderbirds responded halfway through the first period when Jordan Gustafson capitalized on a power play opportunity and found the twine for his 19th goal of the year.
The second period was all Seattle, starting just 2:38 in when Matthew Rempe pushed the Thunderbirds lead to 2-1 with another goal. Sawyer Mynio padded the lead to 3-1 at 13:56 with help from Leon Okonkwo Prada and Gabe Ludwig.
The Chiefs managed to keep the Thunderbirds at bay in the third period, with rookie netminder Cooper Michaluk stopping all nine Seattle shots on net.
Michaluk saved 29-of-32 total shots, while Seattle's Scott Ratzlaff stopped all but one of Spokane's 20 shots.
Spokane went 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill. The Chiefs were outshot 32-20 on the night.
Up next, the Chiefs will head to Tri-City to take on the Americans Saturday night at 6:05 p.m.
