Black Hockey History
It's Black Hockey History Night at the VMC!
As part of our ongoing efforts to help ensure that hockey is for everyone, Black Hockey History Night presents an opportunity for the Winterhawks family to recognize the impact of Black athletes in the hockey community, including several former Black players who have played for the Winterhawks through the years. The organization has partnered with non-profits BLAQ Athlete and Influencers of Neighborhoods to continue to grow the sport we love.
Black Hockey History Night will feature fundraising efforts through a number of game-night activities, including specialty t-shirt sales, chuck-a-puck sales and Winterhawks memorabilia auction items. The proceeds will benefit a local college scholarship fund for Black students.
Four Straight
How the tables have turned on this rivalry this season. After seeing Seattle take three of the first four meetings of the year, the Winterhawks have won four straight over their rivals from Kent, including three in the month of January alone. Their hot play has fueled the Hawks' run past the Thunderbirds in the U.S. Division standings, though Seattle has a handful of games to catch up on.
So take the natural rivalry between Portland and Seattle sports teams, add in the proximity these clubs share to one another in the standings and the Winterhawks' recent dominance, and this is sure shaping up to be quite the Saturday night at that VMC. We can't wait, and hope you're excited too!
TV Game
If you can't make it down tonight, don't fret! You can catch the game on Portland's CW (ch. 3 or 703). Tonight's tilt is one of four remaining TV games (all against Seattle) during the 2021-22 regular season.
