Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
The Tigers were back on the road on Friday as they travelled to Swift Current to take on the Broncos for the fifth time this season. After a sterling 37 save performance on Wednesday, Garin Bjorklund got the nod between the pipes for the Tigers, while Reid Dyck got the start for Swift Current.
Swift Current would get the start they were looking for as Connor Hvidston got his 8th of the season as he took advantage of a turnover and beat Bjorklund after the puck deflected off the Tiger player to give the Broncos the 1-0 lead only 1:13 into the opening frame.
Barlage would get tagged for slashing 11 minutes into the period. The Broncos capitalized quickly on the man advantage as Raphael Pelletier set up Matthew Ward leaving Bjorklund no chance only five seconds into the powerplay to put the Broncos up by two.
Teague Patton answered for the Tigers as he kept his stick down, intercepting the Sadhra-Kang clearing attempt and walked right toward the net, firing the puck under the glove of Reid Dyck. Oasiz Wiesblatt was credited with an assist.
Shots after 20 minutes 9-8 Swift Current.
Medicine Hat and Swift Current trade chances in the early stages of the second period, but both Bjorklund and Dyck are solid. Ashton Ferster gets a high sticking penalty midway through the frame and again the Broncos capitalize on the man advantage. Braeden Lewis makes a perfect pass setting up Raphael Pelletier for his 13th of the season, restoring the two goal lead.
Medicine Hat would strike back before the end of the period when Owen MacNeil would send Latvian import Bogdans Hodass in on Reid Dyck with only 23 seconds remaining in the frame. Hodass would make no mistake and beat the Swift Current netminder clean to the glove side to claw the Tabbies back to within one. Pasha Bocharov got credit for the secondary assist.
Shots after two period of play 17-15 Medicine Hat.
Garin Bjorklund made a great save on Josh Davies just over five minutes into the third period, but Connor Hvidston buried the rebound to put Swift up by a pair again.
Swift Current keeps the pressure on the Tigers and Mathew Ward is the recipient of some excellent puck movement getting the puck passed Bjorklund for his ninth goal of the season to push the lead to three goals.
The Broncos wouldn't look back as they added markers from Mathew Ward who collected his first career WHL hat trick and Karson King who got his second goal of the season to make the final 7-2.
Shots on goal 29-24 in favour of Swift Current.
